The thinking behind the find: Città’s Waffle Wool blanket

In association with Città.

“Every picture tells a story” goes the saying, and every good piece of homeware tells one too. The behind-the-scenes design thinking and technical details of this blanket add lovely layers to its already considerable appeal, wrapping you in care, creativity and cleverness.
A beautiful blend of colour and texture conceived by Città’s in-house textile designer Imogen Tunnicliffe, the Waffle Wool blanket is the New Zealand company’s first foray into using this type of 3D weave for warmth. It’s fantastic for that, as its ridged squares trap air heated by your body for increased insulation that’s also lightweight.

ABOVE In this oversized-plaid Multi colour or a retro Honey/Orange Peel hue, this blanket is made from 100% local lambswool and manufactured in Aotearoa as well. Its 150 x 180cm size can keep you as snug as a bug and double as a picnic rug.

Imogen says that while designing this piece, she recalled winter days at a family bach when she was a child, “stormy days, with everyone wrapped up in a blanket or lying on one, playing board games and listening to Split Enz, watching the rain lash at the windows”. It certainly is an evocative tale — one you could weave into your own.
