This renovated ensuite’s a dream due to a skilfull selection of fixtures and fittings

In association with Plumbline.

When you’re an ensuite vying for attention in a capacious home with three living areas, six bedrooms and four other bathrooms, you’d better have something special going for you. Designed by Jane McAulay-Frame of Bespoke Interior Architecture & Design to update an existing dwelling in Auckland’s Coatesville, this one more than holds its own — and not a single element is an opportunity missed.

TOP Backlit his-and-hers mirrors capture the view outside above Plumbline’s Icona wall-mount mixers by Fantini in Matt Gunmetal PVD and Niagara Belle vessel basins by Progetto in Solid Surface White. With a soft square form, the Curv 77 heated towel rail by Avenir on the wall beside them is a match in the same Gunmetal PVD. ABOVE The spacious shower features twin Fukasawa rainheads, Young wall-mount shower kits and Icona mixers — all by Fantini, all in a Matt Gunmetal PVD finish, and all from Plumbline’s carefully selected collection of local and imported finds, chosen for their enduring qualities, exceptional aesthetics and well-considered value for money.

Responding to a brief for a sophisticated look to bring the ensuite into the present without being overly ‘now’, Jane expertly devised a layout that provides plenty of room for two to move around in and lots of hidden storage. Her minimal, cohesive colour and material palettes create an effect that’s simultaneously tranquil and inspiring.
“With its natural finish, the sandblasted stone forms a sensational backdrop that works in harmony with the more daring, veined stonework to achieve a glamorous yet understated look,” says Jane. “In a warm gunmetal finish, the tapware echoes the feature stone beautifully.”

ABOVE Bathed in dappled light through sheer ceiling-to-floor drapes, the Ovo freestanding bath by Claybrook (in Dover White) is topped up by a Buddy floor-mount filler with handshower by Progetto (in Aged Iron/Gunmental) — both from Plumbline.

This handsome tapware is part of a suite of top-quality fixtures and fittings sourced from the extensive collection at leading bathroom supplier Plumbline. This family-owned New Zealand business offers one of the largest product portfolios in the country — a curated choice of timeless traditional and contemporary designs that tie in perfectly here with the ensuite’s colours and textures, hardware and joinery, and even its lighting plan that works in tandem with the abundance of natural light.
“When you step inside this space, it’s truly calming,” says Jane. “Its size is exaggerated and it really feels like quality in its detailing and products. It’s classy and luxurious — like the best hotel bathroom you could dream of.”
