My life in 10 with Juliette Hogan

Celebrating 20 years in business this year, we quizzed fashion designer Juliette Hogan on what makes her tick.

What at-home rituals do you enjoy? Small, weather-influenced rituals like weeding the garden, drying sheets in the sun, and opening doors to the outside. Also, Sunday baking for lunchboxes, along with sorting, tidying…

What’s a self-care product you use daily? Aēsop ‘In Two Minds’ facial cleanser.

Tell us about a book you haven’t been able to put down. Lola in the Mirror, by Trent Dalton. I loved reading that book.

What can guests expect at your table? An array of plates featuring diverse textures, colours and flavours — likely inspired by Yotam Ottolenghi’s cookbooks, and chilli margaritas. Also, my homemade crackers — I haven’t bought crackers for over two years!

A garment you would never be without? Our Relaxed T in white, the perfect piece.

ABOVE One of her Relaxed Ts in white is her forever go-to.

What’s something on your interior wish-list? A print by Casey Moore.

ABOVE But for The Wisdom — a photographic print by Casey Moore.

Do you have a favourite scent/smell? The smell of South Island native bush on the Kepler or Routeburn tracks, or the scent of the ocean — anything that reminds me how fortunate we are to call New Zealand home and how small we are in the grand scheme of nature.

ABOVE Designer Juliette Hogan enjoys time outdoors with her family — Dion, Maya and Daisie at Aoraki/Mount Cook.

Where is the last place you took a holiday? Japan, with my family. It was a dream.

What is an unexpected object at home you would save in a fire? Everything is replaceable except my daughters’ box of artwork that I keep under the bed.

ABOVE Her daughters’ art is the first thing Juliette would save in a fire.

What does home mean to you? Where my family is, where I feel safe, a place that I can invite those who are my nearest and dearest and just be me.
