Just relax

Sometimes the loveliest schemes are also the simplest. Follow our laid-back lead to style your way to your most liveable set-up yet.

In association with Città.

Quiet confidence

Stay classy. When teamed with sunset shades like toffee and turmeric, cane chairs, a jute rug and feathery toetoe provide hints of a ’70s look. Make it work in a modern setting by restricting your palette to just a few warm hues and tying it all together with some grounding neutrals.
Embrace fuss-free femininity. For Città’s spring/summer collection, Arcadia, head of textile and product design Imogen Tunnicliffe was drawn to soft, sculptural shapes, fluid lines, deconstructed geometric detailing, and decorative elements that feel feminine and elegant. “Nothing in the collection takes itself too seriously,” she says. “The forms are modern but friendly, inviting comfort and escape in a sophisticated way.”
Have a ball with baskets. It’s a super-easy way to create a large-scale artwork for your wall. Buy a complete set or search thrift stores for several in a range of sizes, weaves and colours. Map out your arrangement on the floor, add a twisty tie to the back of each basket, then hang on removable hooks, or use nails.

On the shelf

Add this, then that. Città’s chic Linear shelving has magnetic back and side panels that snap to the frame, letting you customise the look to suit your shelfie needs and make smaller compartments for petite vignettes. To create a balanced look across a unit like this, style it in a zigzag from top to bottom, alternating books, sculptural objects, plants and smaller treasures.
Make space. Ensure a successful display by considering the areas you leave empty
as carefully as those you fill. Aim to highlight just a few pieces or zones of interest that draw the eye in, rather than overwhelming the senses by crammingas much as you can on each shelf.
Stage shelves seasonally. A great way to edit an ever-expanding book collection
is to rotate titles throughout the year, keeping just a few on display and the rest stashed away. It’s an approach that works for adults and children alike. On that note, if you are accommodating little ones, a few woven baskets on your bottom shelf will help to boost your toy storage.
Live a little. Style your way to an aesthetically pleasing living area, then put your feet up. Because that’s what it’s all about – designing a space you can really relax in and enjoy.
