Juliette Hogan’s new store at The Crossing, Christchurch

Stop in to see a fit-out that’s very fashion, yet has welcoming hints of the ultimate walk-in wardrobe.

Citing the South Island landscape as something she’s always had an affinity for, Auckland-based fashion designer Juliette Hogan says Christchurch turned out to be the ideal spot for her new store. “The more we travelled looking for the right location, the more perfect it felt.”

MAIN IMAGE A custom-made Pedestal table by homestyle Editions is used for decoration and display. TOP The pale walls glow thanks to clever LED lighting, seen here above a nook upholstered in Pure fabric by Mokum from James Dunlop Textiles. ABOVE You’re invited to take a moment on an Isabella chair by Simon James, beside a Museum stool by homestyle Editions. The Dark Bouquet artwork above them was a joint project between Juliette and Sue Cameron of Floral Stylist Co for Juliette’s latest collection.

Developed in collaboration with James McNab of Think & Shift (who worked on the more technical specifications of the space and realised the team’s vision for display and lighting) and homestyle editor Alice (who consulted on the interior design), the boutique embodies the label’s effortless elegance and ease.

ABOVE A curved oak wall greets you on entry. “To me, it feels welcoming and protective, and I hope that’s how our customers respond to it as well,” says Juliette. Underfoot is an Agra Knot rug by Armadillo from The Ivy House.

The décor lets the clothing shine, with a muted colour palette creating a timeless backdrop that allows the eye to land on Juliette’s sought-after silhouettes and signature prints. Oak, marble and plaster add texture to the room painted in Resene Half Blanc, while blackened steel and other noir accents up the luxe. It’s a sophisticated, salon-style setting, but one that makes you feel at home.
