What’s your secret for a happy home? One that tells your story. I love it when you can walk in and instantly get a sense of who lives there.
Morning must-do before the day begins? Coffee, always. Then a quick check of my plants to see who’s thriving or throwing a tantrum, and a scroll through Marketplace for things I don’t need but might buy anyway.
A styling trick you’ll never tire of? Mixing eras and materials. A mid-century chair next to a Moroccan rug and a $20 op-shop vase: that tension is where the magic happens.
What’s catching your eye creatively right now? The return of rich, muddy colours such as brown, maroon and murky blue. Everyone’s moving away from beige and embracing mood again, which makes my heart happy.
The piece that makes your place feel complete? My rug from my collection with Double, inspired by the wild south of Tasmania.
What’s your hosting style? The illusion of casual chaos. I’ll cook too much food, open a few bottles and fill every surface with candles. If it feels a little messy by the end of the night, it means people had fun.
How did your book A Visual Feast take shape? I wanted to take the intimidation out of interior design. I thought, if cookbooks can break down flavours and ingredients, why not do the same for creating a home?
A rule you love to bend in design? That furniture has to float. Sometimes a sofa against the wall is the most practical thing.
Summer plans — sorted or spontaneous? Both. I’ll be on the road across New South Wales for my A Visual Feast book tour, then off to New Zealand to visit family, but I’m leaving space for a few last-minute adventures.
