Husband and wife duo Isaac and Beck Lindesay want to break down the walls when it comes to adventurous architecture.

Owning a bach is a widely held dream in Aotearoa, somewhere to immerse yourself in the natural wonder of our environment, a bolthole to escape the busyness of everyday life. But what about when that piece of land is a three- to four-hour drive from a metropolitan area and there are no builders, or sub-contractors, within cooee of your site? Struck by this very dilemma, Isaac Lindesay decided to do something about it. Now his team at Makespace, the modular home company he launched in 2021, exists to make your remote build dreams come true.
With the goal of making building an architectural home more accessible for people in far-flung places around Aotearoa, Isaac worked with Studio Billy Architecture to develop a prefab modular system designed to withstand the harshest environments. “All of our projects are located in remote areas,” says Isaac. “Be it Central Otago, Ahipara, or Great Barrier Island, our homes need to be extremely durable to weather the diverse climates across the country.”
Thermally modified timber is used for the exterior cladding, while inside there’s a choice of material palettes as curated by the Makespace team. Pre-designed floorplans range from one-room studios to five‑bedroom houses, while a bespoke offering allows you to work more closely with an architect on a custom solution.
With his wife Beck Lindesay (née Wadworth) on board — who leverages her graphic design expertise as creative director in the business — together the couple have honed their vision through modern, minimalist branding. They constructed a Squarespace website to convey their ethos and services, and just like their architecture, the Makespace brand communication focuses on form and function.
“Our Squarespace website is a billboard for the business, and one of our strongest sales tools,” says Beck. “We wanted our online presence to reflect our premium aesthetic and design values.”
Building and managing the website herself, Beck appreciates Squarespace’s customisation features, which allowed her to establish a clear hierarchy for the information the company shares about its variety of services. Visuals play a vital role in transporting viewers to the remote landscapes where their homes are situated, making imagery a key asset. To hero this, a template that prominently showcases project photography in the website’s layout was a winning choice.
Having delivered 25 projects since their launch, the entrepreneurial couple shows no signs of slowing down. Isaac and Beck are constantly improving their custom architectural services and are currently working on developing solutions for landscape hotels and Airbnb-type accommodations. It sounds like there could be a couple of Squarespace builds on the drawing board too.
